Why Queen Elizabeth Always Carried A Black Bag Indoors

I actually learnt something about the late Queen Elizabeth II, and I thought to share it with y'all.

I do love royal families - especially British Royal families simply because of their charisma. This love also transcended into me watching British royal family shows, and my favorites are Downton Abbey, and Bridgerton. I'm mentioning this in case you know a few good ones - I'd be glad if you suggest them in the comments.

I have so much respect, and admiration for people with self-respect, and self-control; and most members of the royal families have groomed themselves, or have been groomed by their parents or guardians to have these traits!

One thing that drew my attention to the Queen Elizabeth, is the fact that she assumed the throne at age 27 after her father's death in 1952. She ruled longer than any monarch in British history - 70 years, 214 days of being on the throne! A woman! 🤍

Another thing that drew my attention to her is her black purse which I just found out why she's always got it - even indoors!

It's a patent black mini bag made by Launer : the heritage British luxury handbag and leather small goods brand; and according to Town & Country, she owns more than 200 bags from this brand.

Phil Dampier author of What's In The Queen's Handbag : And Other Royal Secrets said the Queen carries a lot of items in her purse including dog treats for her corgis, a diary, a small camera which she uses to take pictures of visiting presidents, and other VIPs, a penkni.fe which serves as a throwback to her days as a girl guide, etc.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, who wrote Elizabeth the Queen: The Woman Behind The Throne, also claimed the bag contains a portable hook which is used to hang it under tables, as well as more common items like a mirror and a lipstick.

She also said the Queen always carries a £5 note to give as a donation to the church collection on Sundays. According to Ms Bedell Smith, the monarch occasionally increases her donation to £10, which is the highest she will go.

Now this is the shoc.king part about this bag - she uses it to send secret signals to her staff! In 2011, royal historian Hugo Vickers told People that if she passed her handbag from one hand to the other, it was a signal that she needed assistance getting out of a conversation.

‘It would be very worrying if you were talking to the Queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other,’ he said. 'It would be done very nicely. Someone would come along and say, “Sir, the Archbishop of Canterbury would very much like to meet you.”’ Lol!

If she was at dinner, and placed the bag on the table, it'd mean she wanted to end the event in the next five minutes.

If she places it on the floor, it signals that she is in an uncomfortable situation, and wants to be rescued by her lady-in-waiting.

Well, I'd say that this is actually a stealthy, and a diplomatic way of communication! Do you agree? Xo, Moxie
