Why I stopped Banking with Zenith Bank

Hi guys, so I’m finally over this issue, and I’m strong enough to talk about it!

Disclaimer : I just feel like putting this out here so more people don’t fall victims! This is truly my experience with Zenith Bank, and so many other people have complained about this same issue even on twitter! (Refer to screenshots below)

This can actually happen to anyone! When it happened to me, I thought I wouldn’t survive it because I cried all night! My friends kept saying “Moxie, you’re smart, why did you fall for this?” I literally didn’t have any reply for that question!

On the 4th of July 2022, I tried to get some money through POS with my Zenith bank debit card. The POS operator tried it, and it was a failed transaction; and few minutes later I got debited!

If you know me, you’ll know I don’t play with my money; so I tried calling Zenith bank customer care, and oh my goodness! They’re the wor.st customer service I’ve ever experienced! Usually I get my bank issues resolved via phone with UBA!

I mean it’s my first time having an issue with Zenith bank because I opened an account with them three months before having this issue or thereabout, so I had no idea what their customer service was like!

I am not exaggerating when I say they’re very nonchalant! I can’t remember the last time I walked to a bank to lay a complaint so I didn’t even think about going to the bank to file a report about a failed transaction!

If you’re in Nigeria, you’ll know or understand the kind of queue you see in Nigerian banks, and you'll also know how going to a bank won’t solve your issues fast! They’ll still have to ask you to wait for some days, so why bother when I can make calls for same results or even get faster results!

Please note that I waited till night to call them, and resolve this issue because I believe they have less calls coming in late at night.

I spent about #2000 worth of airtime trying to speak to a customer service - their wait-time is long, and when it’s finally getting to my turn — because they let you know the number of people waiting before it's your turn when you call them, the call ends! I tried calling again numerous times, and I had to wait about 40 minutes to get to my turn, and once the IVR says I’m next in line, the call ends!

I decided to try their live chat on their website! There, it shows you the name of the person attending to your chat/issues, and tells you when they’ve read your message! My messages were being read by these people without a reply!

At this point, I was already frustrated so I decided to make the complaint on twitter! This is where I mes.sed up! I never knew Zenith bank had so many scammers operating with fake Zenith bank accounts on twitter!

This was my first time trying to call anyone out on social media — not to talk of a bank!

This said person replied me, and asked I chat their WhatsApp customer care because they respond faster there! I mean I didn’t know it’s a fake page, or maybe frustration didn’t let me look well!

Ps, I first found Zenith bank on twitter, and I sent them a message which they immediately replied! I complained about my issue, and they disappeared for hours, and resurfaced after I got scammed! I literally thought it was them replying my tweet because I called them out — not knowing it was a scammer!

I texted the number, and they were so professional that you won’t suspect a thing! They sent a form, and asked me to make my complaint! The last time I went to bank for a bank issue was in my university days, and I remember I was given a form too so there was nothing to suspect! I was asked questions about what happened, what means I used to make the transaction, first 6 digits of my card! Again, when I wanted a refund from Jumia, they asked me this same question to confirm it from their system that it’s same card connected to my account I used to make the payment, so I didn’t suspect nothing!

Now this is where I messed up!

They asked for my pin, which I typed without thinking twice! It was after I typed my pin, I realized that I may have messed up! But it was too late! I got an email from Zenith bank saying I logged into my app using an iPhone 11 Pro Max. I wasn’t even using an iPhone 11, and I didn't have the zenith bank app because I wanted to use the account as my official savings account! In the next second, I got a debit alert — everything in my account was gone! Of course the scammer blocked me! The number wasn’t reachable either!

I tried sending a mail to Zenith bank, and they asked for more details which I sent, and they never replied me again — even though I sent subsequent emails!

I contacted paystack, and they were willing to help! They asked me to ask my bank to write to them officially so they can help me get my money back, but the nonchalance of Zenith bank frustrated me so much that I let this money go!

The amount I lost doesn’t matter because I won’t get the money back!

Yes I also wrote to CBN, and they didn’t give any meaningful reply!

I made my research, and realized that these scammers are linked to Zenith bank more than any other bank, and it’s been going on for years yet they don’t do their best to respond to customers to curb the vulnerable ones from falling victim!

I accept my mistake of giving out my pin, but if this bank had not frustrated me with their nonchalance, it won’t get to that point, I believe!

Zenith bank is all hype, and it’s this hype that made me create an account with them; but right now, I don’t care what anyone tells me! I’m done with them! I blocked the card, and moved their emails to spam!

They never replied my emails about the POS transaction, and neither did they reverse the money!

Please be more careful about twitter scammers! Xx
